GAS SAVING TIPS (07.25.2008)

GAS SAVING TIPS

10 ways you can increase fuel efficiency.

1. Avoid prolonged engine warm-up - 30 to 45 seconds is plenty of time, even on cold mornings.
2. Avoid idling. Idling your engine for one minute consumes the gas amount equivalent to starting the engine.
4. Avoid "revving" the engine, especially just before you switch the engine off; this wastes fuel needlessly.
5. Avoid rapid starts and stops. Gently bring the vehicle up to the desired speed then ease into stops. This will allow the vehicle to function at peak efficiency.
6. Avoid speeding. Drive at or below speed limit - gas mileage decreases rapidly after 55 mph. Use cruise control whenever possible to help set and maintain a steady speed.
7. Keep tires inflated to manufacturer specifications. A decrease in 1 or 2 psi (punds per square inch) translates to a decrease in 1 or 2 mpg (miles per gallon).
8. Avoid filling gas tank to top. Never fill gas tank past the first "click" of fuel nozzle, if nozzle is automatic.
9. Remove roof racks when not in use to reduce drag and improve fuel efficiency.
10. Go light. Avoid carrying around excess weight in your vehicle and when buying a new car - remember lighter is better when it comes to fuel economy.
